Post Hurricane Harvey Update

Dear friends,

On behalf of Houston Audubon, I would like to thank all of you - volunteers, members, donors, partners and the greater Houston Audubon family - for your calls, notes and inquiries regarding Houston Audubon during this devastating and challenging time caused by Hurricane Harvey.

I know many of us have been busy escaping rising flood waters and helping others to safety, so I’m only now able to slow down to reach out to provide an update. Some board members, volunteers and family members of staff were flooded-in or had to evacuate, but all have been accounted for and are safe. However, we are sad to share the heartbreaking news of Agnes Stanley, a long-time dedicated volunteer for the Audubon Docent Guild. She was found in her flooded home. Among her many helpful engagements with Audubon, she taught preschoolers in our Titmouse Club at Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and will reach out to help in any way we can.

We have a long recovery ahead as a city and a community. Houston Audubon may very well need help over the coming weeks and months, but at first glance, it appears that our urban sanctuaries weathered the storm with damage we feel is reparable with care and hard work. It is very reassuring to know our city remains a caring community of citizens to whom we can always count on. And while we may have needs wherein we reach out for help, we also want to be sure that we are offering our compassionate assistance to our neighbors, friends and families over the coming weeks as well. With that in mind, we hope to provide additional updates regarding our sanctuaries, the needs and help of our Audubon family, and the needs of the community at large as information is gathered. We are progressively addressing Audubon issues day by day and keep each of you in our thoughts and prayers.

Always feel free to reach out and communicate with us and each other via our Facebook Page. We will share information there as needs are identified and assistance becomes available. We are proud to be a part of this amazing Houston community.

Until our next update, stay safe.

Helen
